High Point North Carolina is the Mecca of furniture fashion. The October High Point Furniture Market was one of the best shows that I have attended in the past ten years. The furniture manufacturers were very upbeat because they are seeing a nice uptick in their business. New introductions were shown by many vendors. Durham Furniture introduced a spectacular new bedroom design that combined a true white finish on the drawer fronts with a dark cherry finish on the case.
Catnapper/Jackson Furniture had one of the most fun introductions. They have a licensing agreement with the TV show "Duck Dynasty" and introduced a new line of camouflage furniture. This display was one of the busiest showrooms at the market.
There is a definite move away from offshore furniture. Many vendors are returning their production to North America and the retailers are really supporting this transition and using it as a selling point to their consumer. Smittys Fine Furniture is leading the way in the move to sell more locally produced furniture. Over 80 percent of the furniture we sell is Made in Canada.
You will see a lot of red and purple accents in the coming months. This seems to be the upcoming colour trend.
Three dimensional room planners were introduced at this market. I attended a seminar by a company called View it Technologies who displayed how the system works. If you have watched the show Property Brothers then you have seen this new planner.
It is impossible to see the entire market in the four days that we attend. There is over ten million sq ft of display in High Point.
